September, 2006: Bamberton School Reunion

Labour Day weekend saw over 60 former Bamberton School students and their families returning to the Bamberton site where the Bamberton Historical Society hosted the first Bamberton School Reunion. One gentleman flew from Ottawa and another from Prince George.  Most of the people hadn't seen each other in 40-50 years and some as long as 75 years.

An authentic Bamberton School Report card was used to design the day's program which people could take home as a keepsake.  Terry Brunt, Ross Tennant, and Maureen Alexander gave short speeches after which a 2006 "class photo" was taken. Refreshments were served and everyone had an opportunity to tour the museum and also take a van tour  of the site and  the village.  Ross Tennant and Michelle Mahovlich of Three Point Properties (current owners of the Bamberton Lands) provided explanations of the remediation process and future plans. Everyone had a wonderful time reliving old memories  and reconnecting with  friends.

"My wife and I had a super day at the Bamberton School Reunion.  It is funny to see my old classmates from grade one.  How many times do people get to visit with their pals from grade one."
(Ian Sturdy)

August, 2006: Walking Tours & artefacts on display

In August 2006 a collection of artefacts, on loan from various former Bamberton residents and employees, was displayed at the manager’s house on the Bamberton site. Over 250 people viewed this collection and took part in guided walking tours of the old Bamberton village site.

Sue Edgson (Bamberton June/51-Dec/72):
I spoke with Mom at the hospital today and we are both so happy that someone is taking the time to document what is left of our history. It was a time that united us all in our life together in the Bamberton village. Thanks for bringing Bamberton back to life for us and our families. We appreciate your efforts and hope that all goes well.

Spring, 2006: Historical DVD Release

The Bamberton Historical Society’s archives were used to produce a DVD documentary called Bamberton Gone But Not Forgotten. This was funded by Three Point Properties and previewed at Pine Lodge Farm in Mill Bay, BC on June 13, 2006.Two hundred people attended the two showings and received copies of the DVD for their personal viewing. A further show was held at the Bamberton site on June 17, 2006.

October, 2005: Open House

An Open House, offering historic presentations, tours and displays, was held at the old Bamberton site. Close to 400 people of all ages, attended and expressed an interest in learning more about the history. Many of them, who had had a direct connection with the site, stated a desire to pass on to their families a sense of what life had been like at Bamberton.

Did you know?
The original design for the entire Bamberton plant specified only 3 sizes of electric motors, which made complete spare coverage possible by carrying only three extra motors and switches.
